CHARACTERS

KOFI

A young boy who has escaped from the William Searcy plantation, Kofi’s flight to freedom carries him deep into the unforgiving Okefenokee Swamp on the Georgia–Florida border. Terrified yet determined, he must learn to use wit, courage, and the swamp’s hidden power to outpace the men who hunt him. Kofi’s journey is not just about escape—it is about transformation.

Along the way, he discovers a bond with the swamp’s creatures and a mysterious panther that leads him toward strength, belonging, and the Seminole people who wait unseen in the shadows.

GHOST

Once a warrior of an ancient Creek clan, Red Hawk—now called Ghost—wanders the swamp as an exile. Years ago, a terrible mishap cost him his place among his people, leaving him to drift between worlds, neither fully spirit nor man. In the form of a black panther, Ghost haunts the Okefenokee, testing those who dare enter its depths.

To Kofi, he appears first as a threat, then as a guide, revealing the deeper spiritual connection between the land, its people, and the will to survive. Ghost embodies the swamp’s ancient power—mysterious, unforgiving, and ultimately redemptive.

REEVES

William Searcy’s most trusted bounty hunter, Reeves has built his name on the relentless pursuit of runaways. Known across the South for his brutal precision and cold resolve, Reeves believes the swamp is his ally—its dangers no match for his cunning and cruelty.

To him, Kofi is just another fugitive to be broken and returned, but beneath his hardened exterior lies a man obsessed with control and power, who underestimates the will of a boy fighting for freedom and the swamp that rises against him.
